Escalation in ConSol is the process of engaging a manager to assist in progressing an Order. There are two types of escalation available in ConSol:
- Financial Escalation: Used when an order requires financial approval because its value exceeds your delegation limit.
- Ask an Expert: Used when you need advice, clarification or guidance from a Manager.
It is important to select the correct escalation type based on the reason you need to escalate the order.
Financial Escalation
Financial escalation is enforced when the value of an Order, Variation, Claim, or Invoice is higher than the user's set delegation limit, and a Manager's approval is required for the order to proceed. It is triggered from 4 specific points in the order life-cycle: order transmission, variation approval, claim verification and invoice approval
When should I use "Financial Escalation"?
Use Financial Escalation when you are taking an action on an order that has a financial value above your approved delegation limit.
For example:
You are authorised to transmit orders up to $10,000, but the order you are working on has a value of $15,000. The Transmit button on the Transmit Order screen is replaced with a Financial Escalation button so that an Approval Manager with the appropriate delegation can review and approve the order for transmission.
What happens when I use "Financial Escalation"?
You can select the workgroup responsible for approving the high-value order. You may select a specific Manager to request approval from.
The Approval Manager can:
- Approve the order if it is within their delegation limit.
- Reject the order.
- Financially Escalate the order to another Approval Manager if the order exceeds their own delegation limit.
Financial Escalation is specifically about financial authority and delegation limits, not general advice or clarification.
Ask an Expert
Manual escalation is available at any time in the order life-cycle, allowing users to request advice or guidance from a Manager or SME. This process is not related to order value and does not transition the order to the next stage (i.e., it is a question-and-answer process that, after the response is viewed, returns the user to the order stage they were at when they initiated the question).
When should I use "Ask an Expert"?
Use Ask an Expert when you need help, clarification, advice or a decision from a Manager before you can continue working on an order.
This may be appropriate when:
- You are unsure how to proceed with an order.
- You need general advice from a Manager.
- You need a Manager to confirm what action to take.
NOTE: "Ask an Expert" is not related to the order's financial value or your delegation limit. Please see below for Financial Escalations
What happens when I use "Ask an Expert"?
Selecting Ask an Expert sends the order to a Manager of your choice. They can then respond to your question with an answer. The order can then be progressed based on the advice provided.
Which escalation should I use?
Do I need advice or clarification?
- Use Ask an Expert
Use this when you need a Manager to answer a question or clarify how you should proceed.
What happens when the order exceeds my financial delegation limit?
- Financial escalation is available when a user wants an order to proceed, but the order value exceeds the user's delegation limit and requires manager approval.
- NOTE: No authority limit check is applied upon rejections.
